As the roof and spire of Notre Dame Cathedral burned, a crowd gathered nearby. Many in the crowd stood silent, heartbroken and shocked by the devastation. But out of the silence, a few onlookers began to sing hymns and recite prayers. Two kinds of people witnessing the same death and destruction, but very different responses.
